what have i been building? / twenty-eight thousand days…

I keep talking about giving people back their time.

Then I think about my own day.

I want time with my son. Time to make something carefully. Time to be available to the people who depend on me. I also want to keep building, and I know how easily another idea can fill whatever space opens up.

So there is a question I need to ask myself, too: if I get that time back, what will I do with it?

I want my son to know the part of me that creates, that follows an idea, that cares about getting it right. I want to share that with him. And I want there to be room in our life for things that don’t have to be useful, or finished, or turned into the next thing.

I’m still working out how to give all of that a place.

Returning to the camera makes me hear what I say I want. I can come back to the thought later and ask whether I’m making room for it in the way I live.

That feels like something worth keeping a record of.

There is a lot I want to build. There are people I want to be there for. I’m trying to understand what each asks of me, and how to give them the care they deserve.
